Why the Farm?

The farm spa environment makes it an easier place to come to. It has no stigma or pressure associated with it. This makes it easier for people to seek help. It is very important to get out doors and away from the hectic lives we lead.

Spending time in nature has been shown to lower stress levels, Seattle-based environmental psychologist Judith Heerwagon tells The Huffington Post. “Just looking at a garden or trees or going for a walk, even if it’s in your own neighborhood, reduces stress,” she says. “I don’t think anyone understands why, but there’s something about being in a natural setting that shows clear evidence of stress reduction, including physiological evidence — like lower heart rate.”

The outdoors make us happy.

In addition to helping decrease stress levels, spending more time with nature shows a shift toward more positive moods, says Heerwagon. While we don’t know exactly why this happens in our bodies, “the theory is that we respond positively to things that are good for us,” she tells The Huffington Post. “Trees offer shade, protection and often have fruits and nuts, so they are a source of food as well as protection and comfort.” The idea is that we like things that are inherently good for us and our survival, which is why trees and other natural elements can help lift our moodshttps://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/22/how-the-outdoors-make-you_n_5508964.html

OUR MISSION

The mission of Tanya’s Wellness Farm and Spa, Inc. is to create a community –based retreat for both the mind and body. We aim to help those struggling with anxiety, depression, alopecia, cancer treatments and other mind-body ailments. In order to achieve this goal we will use a combination of Equine therapy, spa treatments, educational seminars/workshops, and affordable high-quality wigs. Our ultimate goal is to aid individuals in the development of positive coping skills while decreasing suffering and increasing self-esteem.

Equine therapy will be provided for those afflicted with mind-body ailments, anxiety, depression and cancer patients as well as military veterans. Individuals call in to schedule session with an equine coach and a therapist depending on the type of session scheduled. Military veterans will work with coaches learning how to break and bond with wild horses. Individuals struggling with anxiety, depression and/or other ailments will work with the horses on the ground in a safe space.

Woman who have had Mastsectomeys will do grooming techniques on the horses to strengthen and loosen the tight muscles caused by the surgery.

A therapist will be on hand alongside the equine coach to guide them through their emotions and to use the horses as emotional surrogates. The equine coach will teach them how to train or simply allow them to play and bond with the horse. These sessions typically last for 1 ½ hours. There is also a half hour long session available where the equine coach will guide them through the basic grooming and care of horses. Cancer patients can also book grooming and care sessions as well. Each session is highly customized to meet the specific needs of each individual. The cost of each session is determined by the participant’s ability to pay and offsets the expense of operating the program. In the case of an individual not being able to pay for the service, we will set up a separate fund to cover their program expenses.

Our spa program consists of several different programs. For cancer patients and those suffering from alopecia, we offer high quality wigs at affordable costs. To receive a wig, an individual must first schedule a consultation with a specialist. The specialist will meet with them to discuss and assess their needs and preferences. If we have a wig already in stock that will fit them and meets their preferences/needs, they can leave with a wig that same day. If they require special fit and/or we do not have one in stock that they like, they will need to schedule a fitting. Once the wig has been completed, they can come pick it up.

In addition to custom wigs, we offer make -up lessons, oncology massages and facials for cancer and alopecia patients. Individuals must schedule these ahead of time through us and each session lasts for 1 ½ hours. Individuals can also sign up for our meditation and mindfulness program, which is a series of 6 classes on stress relief techniques. Once someone has enrolled in the program, their needs will be assessed and they can schedule all of their classes from available times. Each class lasts approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. The cost of each service is determined by the recipient’s ability to pay and offsets the expense of operating the program. In the case of an individual not being able to pay for the service, we will set up a separate fund to cover their program expenses.

The third main service we will provide is access to educational seminars. These seminars are scheduled and posted ahead of time. To attend a seminar, individuals must sign up for them either online or by calling in. These seminars are led by guest speakers who will give presentations on a variety of topics. Due to the variation in topic, the length of the seminar will also vary. Some seminars will be free to attend, while others may have an admission fee that will cover the cost of hosting the speaker.
